ToggleMap Privacy Policy

Effective date: 8 October 2026

This privacy policy explains how the ToggleMap app for Android and iOS handles your information. The short version: ToggleMap does not collect, store or sell your personal data. The app has no account, no ads, no analytics and no server of its own. To draw the map, the app loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap, as described below.

Who we are

ToggleMap is published by Kyltveit ENK, a Norwegian sole proprietorship (organisation number 938613125) owned by Magnus Kyltveit.

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which applies in Norway through the EEA Agreement, Kyltveit ENK is the data controller for any personal data we handle in connection with ToggleMap.

Your location

• ToggleMap asks for your location only when you tap the live-location button. Until you tap it, the app does not access your location.
• The app asks for "while using the app" permission. On Android this covers both precise and approximate location. ToggleMap uses your location only while the app is open on screen (in the foreground). It never uses your location in the background.
• Your position is used only to centre the map on you and show your location on the map. It is kept in the device's memory while the app runs. It is not saved to the device, and it is never sent to us or to anyone else.
• You can refuse or remove the location permission at any time in your device settings. Everything else in the app keeps working.

Map tiles from OpenStreetMap

The map is made of small images called tiles. ToggleMap downloads them over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection from the OpenStreetMap tile servers at tile.openstreetmap.org, which the OpenStreetMap Foundation (OSMF) runs with its content delivery network.

Like any request on the internet, each tile request lets the OSMF servers see:

• your device's IP address;
• which map tiles are requested, meaning the area and zoom level of the map you are looking at. If you have centred the map on your own location, this area will be around where you are;
• standard technical details of the request, such as the app's identifier and the time.

ToggleMap does not add your GPS position, your name or any identifier to these requests. OSMF handles this information as an independent controller, under its own privacy policy: https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy. We do not receive this information and cannot access it.

Our legal basis for making these requests is our legitimate interest in showing you the map you asked for (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). The app cannot show a map without them.

Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors. If you tap the attribution link, it opens in your web browser, and that website's own privacy policy applies.

What ToggleMap does not do

• No accounts or sign-in. We don't ask for your name, email or phone number.
• No analytics, tracking or crash reporting. The app contains no analytics, crash-reporting or tracking tools (for example, no Firebase or Google Analytics).
• No advertising. The app shows no ads, contains no advertising SDKs and does not use advertising identifiers.
• No server of our own. The app does not send any data to Kyltveit ENK.
• No selling or sharing of personal data. We have nothing to sell or share.

If you contact us

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to answer you, and we delete it when it is no longer needed for that purpose, unless the law requires us to keep it. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering your enquiry (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Our email is provided by Google (Gmail).

App stores

You download ToggleMap from Google Play or Apple's App Store. Those stores process information about your download and purchase under their own privacy policies. Their policies, not this one, govern that processing.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

• access the personal data we hold about you;
• have inaccurate data corrected;
• have your data erased;
• restrict or object to our processing;
• data portability, where it applies.

Because the app itself does not send us any data, in practice we will only ever hold data about you if you have emailed us. To use your rights, email magnusmoodmaker@gmail.com. We will reply within one month.

For data processed by OpenStreetMap (see above), please contact OSMF as described in its privacy policy.

You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority. In Norway this is Datatilsynet (the Norwegian Data Protection Authority), https://www.datatilsynet.no/. If you live elsewhere in the EU/EEA, you can contact the authority in your own country.

Children

ToggleMap is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. The app collects no personal data from any user, and you can use it without giving any personal information.

Security

All map tile requests use encrypted HTTPS connections. Your location is not stored or transmitted, so there is no location history that could be exposed.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy, for example when we add new features to ToggleMap. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the effective date above. If a change has a significant effect on how your data is handled, we will tell you in the app or in the store listing before the change takes effect.
